What is Our Purpose?

First, our purpose statement in one sentence:

OverWatchUSA – SC Patriots for Liberty aims to reawaken a historically accurate America First perspective in the citizens of South Carolina.

The battleground is education. For several generations, it has been possible, and even likely, for a young person to graduate high school, and then college, having never once heard an accurate presentation of…

  • The American story
  • American Exceptionalism;
  • The history of our founding;
  • The wisdom of our Founding Fathers and the documents they wrote;
  • The importance of Liberty.

Talk to almost any young person, and engage them about a current issue of the day, race for example. You will soon discover that their opinion is informed virtually exclusively by a Marxist, Socialist, Leftist perspective. If you try to debate them, they will almost certainly have no frame of reference for understanding your Conservative, Americanist point of view.
This has everything to do with the fact they were never taught. Several generations of American citizens have zero understanding of the story of America, the greatness of America, or why America matters and is worthy of cherishing and protecting.
Our first and most important goal is to turn this around by focusing on educating not only our young people, but entire families, and on fundamentally changing our education system to facilitate the correct and accurate teaching of exactly what America, and specifically American liberty and representative form of government, have meant to her citizens, and citizens of the world, since her founding.
Ronald Reagan warned us, in his farewell address:

There is a great tradition of warnings in presidential farewells, and I’ve got one that’s been on my mind for some time. But oddly enough it starts with one of the things I’m proudest of in the past eight years: the resurgence of national pride that I called the new patriotism. This national feeling is good, but it won’t count for much, and it won’t last unless it’s grounded in thoughtfulness and knowledge.
An informed patriotism is what we want. And are we doing a good enough job teaching our children what America is and what she represents in the long history of the world? Those of us who are over 35 or so years of age grew up in a different America. We were taught, very directly, what it means to be an American. And we absorbed, almost in the air, a love of country and an appreciation of its institutions.
“If you didn’t get these things from your family you got them from the neighborhood, from the father down the street who fought in Korea or the family who lost someone at Anzio. Or you could get a sense of patriotism from school. And if all else failed you could get a sense of patriotism from the popular culture. The movies celebrated democratic values and implicitly reinforced the idea that America was special. TV was like that, too, through the mid-60s.
But now, we’re about to enter the ’90s, and some things have changed. Younger parents aren’t sure that an unambivalent appreciation of America is the right thing to teach modern children. And as for those who create the popular culture, well-grounded patriotism is no longer the style. Our spirit is back, but we haven’t reinstitutionalized it. We’ve got to do a better job of getting across that America is freedom – freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of enterprise. And freedom is special and rare. It’s fragile; it needs [protection].
So, we’ve got to teach history based not on what’s in fashion but what’s important – why the Pilgrims came here, who Jimmy Doolittle was, and what those 30 seconds over Tokyo meant. You know, four years ago on the 40th anniversary of D-day, I read a letter from a young woman writing to her late father, who’d fought on Omaha Beach. Her name was Lisa Zanatta Henn, and she said, `we will always remember, we will never forget what the boys of Normandy did.’
Well, let’s help her keep her word. If we forget what we did, we won’t know who we are. I’m warning of an eradication of the American memory that could result, ultimately, in an erosion of the American spirit. Let’s start with some basics: more attention to American history and a greater emphasis on civic ritual.

Making sure the current generation, and all succeeding generations, hear the true and accurate story of America, and learn what freedom and liberty really mean, and how American Exceptionalism is responsible for exporting more good health, prosperity, hope, and happiness to citizens around the world, is our primary goal.
We will succeed in this goal by:

  • Advocating for parents at the local, county, and state levels
  • Encouraging and equipping citizens to become involved in their children’s education
  • Supporting parents in running for their local school board
  • Fighting for school choice
  • Leading training and educational seminars at churches, schools, colleges, and universities across the state
  • Supporting Conservative candidates who support will work tirelessly to reform education in South Carolina
  • Holding events, meetings, protests, and demonstrations at both the county and state levels

Finally, we will include an Armed Defense and Disaster relief component, Christian Overwatch Relief, with the understanding that we will never be the aggressors, but will, when called upon, protect and defend our communities, our homes, our families, and our American liberties, to the last man if necessary.

To accomplish all of these things, we need people like you to step up. If you tell us you want to help, we will put you to work in some capacity.

If you want to be part of the work we are doing in South Carolina, please provide us your contact information below…

We are building a simple database of people who are willing to step up and say, “I’ll help!” Many of you may want to be a County Captain or Co-Captain. Many will just want to assist in some way, and that’s great… your willingness to do whatever you feel you can – and whatever God calls you to do – is appreciated! No one can do everything, but everyone can do something!

This database will primarily be used to keep you up to date on events in your county and across the state, and to help connect people in each county with one another.

At some point, we may need to contact you off of Facebook, or even off-line altogether, which is why we require ALL of your contact info including mailing address, phone, and email.

PRIVACY – your information will NEVER be shared outside this organization, PERIOD.
